Zero-touch deployment
With mobile devices becoming increasingly application-friendly, end users are downloading and installing more applications on their devices, rapidly increasing the costs of support. As a result, particularly in corporate environments, the IT group responsible for supporting mobile users will want to lock down or limit mobile devices, setting device policies that limit or eliminate the end users' ability to install third-party applications.
In such situations, a zero-touch model, which requires no client software to be installed on the device, has clear advantages when deploying a mobile Exchange solution. When end users are provisioned in the back-end and their devices have been provisioned with the service settings, they can simply connect to the system and their device is automatically recognized and registered by the Fenestrae MDS Sync solution.
Provisioning and configuration of new users' mobile devices takes place remotely by sending the service settings over the air to the provisioned devices as SMS messages. Neither the user, nor the system administrator has to enter any information in the device manually. The same mechanism allows providing existing users with new device settings when the old settings may have been lost.
Service Plans
Fenestrae MDS Sync deployment and management are optimized by using so called Service Plans. A Service Plan is a set of predefined settings for a certain type of user. Organizations can configure these Service Plans and apply them to large groups of users. This speeds up large deployments and supports the implementation of enterprise-wide mobile Exchange policies.
